News and More: The inevitable has happened: The coronavirus has come to Canby. Local and state officials had harsh words for the thousands who flocked to Oregon's beaches and campgrounds this weekend to kick off spring break, calling their actions irresponsible, dangerous and "a matter of life or death."
Canby Conversation: In a time of great fear and uncertainty, take comfort in stories like the one we hear today. The Scheer family has endured much hardship in the past almost-150 years, and they're still here. They've survived it all with hard work, perseverance, faith, love and, you know, the occasional sneaked cigarette.
After the Break: How about some good news? I think we could all use it. DirectLink has waived late fees and joined the Keep Americans Connected Pledge, Canby Area Transit is now fare-less, Swan Island Dahlias is selling tulips (for a very good reason) and the Corona Carolers are making the best of a bad situation.

Restaurants are take-out only for a month; bars are closed. A Canby High schooler reflects on a senior year that is ending very differently than she expected.
Canby Conversation: Canby is one of the only communities in the country with an annual ceremony honoring one battle of a particular war: the annual Iwo Jima Remembrance Ceremony and Flag Raising. Martin Lackner, commander of the Canby/Aurora VFW Post 6057, explains why the battle on the black sands must never be forgotten. (Editor's note: This interview was recorded at Gwynn's Coffeehouse a couple weeks ago, when Gwynn's was still open for sit-in dining, and life was a little less crazy.)
After the Break: This week, Francke went on Facebook and asked Canby a simple question: “How are you holding up?” This is what Canby said. This is Canby Then, in the making. This is an oral history of Canby in the midst of the COVID crisis.

Canby Conversation: As Oregonians prepare for the unprecedented challenges that may lie ahead, it's appropriate that we hear from Bellator mixed martial artist Cris "Sunshine" Lencioni. In his most recent match, Lencioni BROKE HIS FREAKING LEG in the first round, and still got the win. Call it drive, determination or just plain insanity, we ask him where it comes from.

Canby residents will have the chance to learn about drinking water quality issues — and voice their concerns — at an upcoming public meeting.
Canby Conversation: It seems we can’t go a week without the news of yet another horrific crash happening in our backyard. But why are they happening? Can we do anything to prevent them? And what of the impact on first responders, who see these grisly scenes up close, in a way that we never do? We discuss these questions and more with our friends at the Aurora Fire District.
After the Break: AFD demos some of the unbelievably powerful tools they use to save lives in a crash situation. We realize the wow factor is...somewhat reduced in a purely audio format. See our website and Facebook page for photos and video, including Francke giving it the old college try.
